This year the film and technology conference is honored to feature Don Levy has been at the forefront of the entertainment industry’s digital transformation throughout his career as a senior executive in animation, visual effects, digital media, television and movies. Levy spent 17 years at Sony Pictures Digital where he was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the studio’s visual effects, animation, post–production, and digital entertainment (games, mobile, online video, digital marketing) businesses. As a member of the Digital Division’s senior management team, he was also involved in digital policy, corporate strategy, organizational development, communications, and many projects than spanned across Sony divisions.
He originally joined the studio as an awards consultant where his efforts resulted in a Best Picture nomination for “Sense and Sensibility” and the Academy Award for its screenplay adaptation by Emma Thompson. At the visual effects company Sony Pictures Imageworks and for Sony Pictures Animation, he helped earn more than a dozen Oscar nominations and Academy Awards for Best Animated Short (The ChubbChubbs) and Best Visual Effects (Spider–Man 2). Marketing positions at Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros Television, and more than 25 feature film assignments preceded his Sony tenure.
Don is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, serving on its feature animation nominating committee and as chair of a working group for the Science and Technology Council. He also is a member of The Television Academy’s Interactive Peer Group.
